Petrecia Shales, Educator/Advocate:

I have been a parent, foster parent, adoptive parent, Court Appointed Special Advocate (C.A.S.A), general education and ESL teacher of 20 years, and am presently a Teacher of the Visually Impaired and an Educational Advocate.  I have an MA in Education, MA in Special Education/Teaching Children with Visual Impairments, ESL Certification, and SEAT Certification for Special Education Advocacy through COPAA (Council of Parent and Attorney Advocates). I provide advocacy services, coaching, and classes for parents and teachers who share the vision that we can improve student outcomes by improving communication and collaboration between schools and families. I am a non-attorney advocate.

The mission of Empowering U Education Advocacy is to support parents, guardians, and teachers of special and general education students in learning strategies for improved communication and collaboration; to help problem-solve with clients whose children are experiencing school-related challenges; and to provide affordable advocacy services as needed, with the goal of improving both a child's educational outcome and the relationship between the school and family.
